The Emerging Artists Programme was launched by the City’s Arts and Culture branch to address the needs of under-resourced, inexperienced and relatively unknown artists in Cape Town.
The programme offers training, mentorship, networking opportunities, and opportunities to showcase their work. It runs in conjunction with the Emerging Artists Annual Business Development Programme, an initiative designed to empower emerging artists with the tools and resources needed to develop and be successful in the arts industry.

The ‘Mother City’ exhibition will highlight many of the challenges that artists face, such as gaining formal training, accessing gallery space, and economically sustaining themselves. Conversely, the exhibition will encourage reflection on how artists influence and are influenced by the City’s evolving identity.
Curated by Zimasile Mjokozeli, the artworks offer a contemplative space and invite viewers to explore the dynamic relationship between artists and the City. Hugo Kabeya, an Emerging Artists alumni, and Lebo Kekana from the Fede Art House will also host talks alongside Zimasile Mjokozeli on Saturday, 7 October between 11am and 1pm.
