For International Assistance Dog Week, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind will be hosting a SA Guide-Dogs Pup Games from August 2 – 7, 2021.
If that doesn’t win your heart over, then how about this – puppies! Here’s the biggest scoop about it! It’s like the Olympic games, but filled with puppies who are all participating in diverse categories that will show how much hard work these balls of fur-faced fluff have been putting in to become successful Assistance Dogs.
The puppies will be competing in a fun-filled training focus that includes obedience, swimming, recalling and so much more. The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind provides independence, mobility and companionship to those in need by offering four core services.
Guide dogs are trained to assist their owner with independently navigating if the owner is someone who has a visual impairment. The dog is paired with the owner according to their lifestyle.
A service dog is trained to assist someone who is physically disabled, to meet your needs and assist you with tasks.
Dogs who are trained in this category work with children who have autism.
Established in 1974, these lovable pooches are known as long cane and provide guidance to visually impaired people by enabling their owners to visit friends, go shopping, or travel to work.
The SA Guide-Dogs Pup Games promises wagging tails and an event filled with fun as we watch these energetic pups do their obstacle courses. The show will be broadcast every day at 10am on Facebook and the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind website.
Please consider donating to SA Guide-Dogs as each donation gives them the ability to train more assistant dogs for the people of South Africa.
