Set to grace the inaugural concert on Sunday, 25 February is SAMA award-winning Afrikaans alternative band Die Heuwels Fantasties and multi-award-winning Cape Flats rapper and composer, Jitsvinger, whose vibrant wordplay and boom-rap-drenched Afrikaans music promise an electrifying performance.
Known for their lively and well-executed performances, including a collection of popular songs played on the radio, Die Heuwels Fantasties have become a top name in South Africa’s music scene for the last fifteen years.
‘2024 marks our 15th year as Die Heuwels Fantasties. We are ready to bring you some of the best familiar tunes in our repertoire, as well as a couple of new tracks that were released over the past few months,’ says vocalist Pierre Greeff. ‘We cannot wait! Hope to see you there!’
From chart-topping hits to sparks from his upcoming album, Jitsvinger is set to mesmerise the audience with his long-standing partner in crime, DJ Willy, who will provide expert scratches and mixes on the decks.

Century City, formerly home to Ratanga Junction, has evolved into a comfortable logistical landmark for visitors from Cape Town and its surroundings. Since Ratanga Junction’s closure in 2018, the Rabie Property Group has transformed the area into a space that offers a new and improved location that embraces a low-stress lifestyle, promoting balance and well-being.
The long-standing tradition of Carols by Candlelight, previously hosted in Central Park since 2009, took on a fresh look as Carols in the Park in 2022. This festive gathering relocated to Ratanga Park, and the 2023 edition, on Sunday, 3 December, saw 2000 people enjoying a pleasant, family-friendly evening on the park’s lawn, capturing the changing atmosphere of this vibrant location.
‘This is where the vision for a series of summer concerts was conceptualized,’ says Nico McLachlan, Managing Director of Cape Town Music Academy (CTMA).
‘The scenic park with its beautiful green open spaces, situated on the banks of the Century City canals, is the perfect setting for large outdoor music concerts. We are excited to bring live music to Ratanga Park, a perfect oasis for a summer evening outing, where families and friends can picnic and listen to contemporary music by top bands as the sun sets with the beautiful backdrop of Table Mountain.’
The Sunset Concerts are family-friendly, picnic-style events. Gates open at 4pm, and the concert begins at 5pm. Guests are welcome to bring their picnics but be reminded that alcoholic beverages and glass bottles are not allowed.
Wine and beer will be available for purchase at the concert, along with food options from local food trucks. Please refrain from bringing tables, chairs, and gazebos, as they may obstruct the view of other attendees.
