More than 40 inflatable boats cut through the water at Santos Beach in Mossel Bay yesterday in the 2023 Six Gun Grill Trans Agulhas Challenge.

The challenge is hosted every year by the Agulhas Inflatable Boat Club (AIBC) and is one of the major boating events to start the Long Haul events hosted by the South African Inflatable Boating Association and other boat clubs.

The four-day race will visit beaches along the coast between Nature’s Valley and Strand before ending on 31 December.
Recognised as the ‘World’s Toughest Inflatable Boat Challenge’, the Trans Agulhas Challenge features a fast-paced water sports event. On the first day, participants take on the 188.5km between Plettenberg Bay and Mossel Bay. The overall winner will be the crew that finishes the entire race in the shortest time.
On day two, boaters will travel from Mossel Bay to Stilbaai. From here, they will race to Struisbaai, before making the final stretch to Strand Beach on Sunday, 31 December.
