Africa Padel is set to host the highly anticipated North vs. South Tournament on Sunday, 13 August. Set against the backdrop of the V&A Waterfront, this event will celebrate the talent of female padel players in honour of Women’s Month, spotlighting their contributions to the world’s fastest-growing racket sport.
Organised by the country’s leading padel operator, the event’s programme serves up competitive matches and live performances, with a prize pool of R60 000 to boost excitement both on and off the court.
Padel is a dynamic blend of tennis and squash played on a substantially smaller court. The padel court is typically one-third the size of a tennis court, enclosed with glass panels and metallic fencing.
It is predominantly played in a doubles format, and while it shares many rules with tennis, such as serving into designated blocks and the points system, it also incorporates elements from squash, allowing players to use the glass panels and metallic fences to their advantage during gameplay.
Africa Padel has emerged as the foremost padel operator in the country, boasting an impressive network of 14 clubs and 62 courts. The company’s commitment to growth and excellence is evident as it continues to expand, with ambitious plans to reach 22 clubs and nearly 100 courts nationwide by the end of 2023.
Africa Padel’s sprawling network of clubs can be found on its website, a testament to the vibrant padel community the company has fostered since its inception.
Beyond the courts, this sport offers an avenue for social interaction, complementing its inherent accessibility and user-friendly learning curve suitable for players of diverse ages and skill levels.
Africa Padel’s North vs. South Tournament
In honour of Women’s Month, female players from across the country have been invited to participate in Africa Padel’s North vs. South Tournament, culminating in the finals on 13 August at Africa Padel’s V&A Waterfront courts.
The North vs. South showdown will feature A, B and C teams made up of selected players hailing from Cape Town and Johannesburg, where the popularity of this hybrid sport has experienced rapid growth in recent months.

The main event, starting at 2pm, will feature the A, B and C teams from the North and South regions battling it out for glory. Each team comprises four talented players, collectively representing the best female padel talent in South Africa.
The event will feature live music, pop-up stores, brand activations and delicious offerings of snacks and food. Refreshing drinks will also be available to keep spirits high throughout the day.
