Today’s outing will see the Capetonians in action for the first time in the Mother City this season and fans are unlikely to be disappointed.
The Summer Sundowners will see the DHL Stormers play two huge Investec Champions Cup matches and two massive Vodacom United Rugby Championship South African derbies at DHL Stadium this festive season.
While the turf at the iconic stadium has served them well in the past, their opponents, defending Champions Cup champions La Rochelle, are unlikely to take things lying down in a match that is sure to have fans flocking to Green Point to see the tussle between two of the toughest sides in the competition.

However, there will be far more than a mere 80 minutes of onfield action to enjoy according to Western Province Rugby’s Commercial Manager, Darryl Kroll.
In the build-up to this first Summer Sundowner still to be hosted at the stadium this festive season, Kroll explained that organisers will be building on past experience to ensure that fans get the most out of their rugby experience before during and after the match.
‘It’s going to be an amazing afternoon, spent in the company of fellow, faithful supporters,’ he said on Friday.
‘We aren’t expecting a full house but there will be a reasonable crowd of between 17 000 and 20 000.’
‘With two of the top teams, including the defending champions, battling it out in their second outing of the competition, we’re expecting an absolute thriller to get the ball rolling in Cape Town.’

While Kroll acknowledged that there would not be any dramatic new developments, in terms of pre and post-game activities this season, Western Province Rugby had spent the last few seasons fine-tuning a recipe for success to ensure that a ticket offers far more than merely a game of rugby.
‘There won’t really be anything new. We’ve had the opportunity to try thing out over the last few seasons and have been able to figure out what works and what doesn’t.’
‘As always, our sponsors have organised plenty of fun, interactive activities for fans to enjoy so get there nice and early.’
Kroll also suggested that fans avoid traffic and take advantage of the free public transport offered to ticket holders.
