On Saturday, 18 March the Cape Town Carnival will paint the city with brushstrokes of individual creativity, cultural diversity and community empowerment.
To prepare for the vibrant “Afr’energy” that will pervade the streets of Cape Town’s city centre this Saturday, the following roads and sections of them will be closed at various times:

Somerset Road:
- Granger Bay Boulevard to Ebenezer Road is closed from 12pm to 1pm.
- Granger Bay Boulevard to Buitengracht Street is closed from 1pm to 1am.
- Exhibition Terrace and York Road are closed from 1pm to 1am. Limited residence access only.
- Highfield Road and Vesperdene Road are closed from 1pm to 1am. Limited residence access only.
Main Road:
- Granger Bay Boulevard to Three Anchor Bay Blvd is closed from 1pm to 1am. Limited residence access only.
Fritz Sonnenberg:
- Vlei Road to Granger Bay Boulevard is closed from 1pm to 1am.
- Granger Bay Boulevard to A Track is closed from 1pm to 1am.
Ebenezer Road:
- Victoria Junction Hotel Parking Entrance to Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
- Port Road to Prestwich Street will be closed from 1pm to 1am. Open to permit holders only.
Bennett Street:
- Port Road to Prestwich Street will be closed from 1pm to 1am. Open to permit holders only.
De Smit Street:
- The intersection between De Smit and Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
Moreland Terrace:
- Napier Street to Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
Napier Street:
- Jarvis Street to Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
- Prestwich Street to Hospital Street is closed from 1pm to 1am.
Alfred Street:
- Schiebe Street to Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
- Prestwich Street to Schiebe Street is closed from 4pm to 1am. Access for Rockwell Hotel guests only.
- Prestwich Street to Hospital Street closes on Friday, 15 March from 5pm to Sunday, 17 March, from 1am.
Hudson Street:
- The intersection between Hudson and Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
- The intersection between Hudson and Waterkant Street is closed from 1pm to 1am. Resident access only.
- The intersection between Hudson and Strand Street is closed from 1pm to 1am. Resident access only.
Dixon Street:
- The intersection between Dixon and Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
Vos Street:
- The intersection between Vos and Strand Street is closed from 1pm to 1am. Resident access only.
Loader Street:
- The intersection between Loader and Dixon Street is closed from 1pm to 1am. Resident access only.
Chiappini Street:
- Prestwich Street to Somerset Road is closed from 1pm to 1am.
- From Prestwich Street to Hospital Street, only the city’s outbound lane will close from 1pm to 1am.
- The intersection between Chiappini and Waterkant Street is closed from 1pm to 1am. Resident access only.
- The intersection between Chiappini and Strand Street is closed from 1pm to 1am. Resident access only.
Prestwich Street:
- Napier Street to Alfred Street is closed from 4pm to 1am. Access control for Rockwell Hotel guests only.
- Alfred Street to Chiappini Street is closed from 8am to 1am.
Hospital Street:
- Napier Street to Alfred Street is closed from 8am to 1am.
- Alfred Street to Chiappini Street is closed from 8am to 1am.
Cavalcade and Thornhill Road:
- York Road to Upper Portswood Road is closed from 1pm to 1am. Resident access only.
