There comes a time to work and a time for play, and to those who are lucky enough to be off this holiday season, use your play time wisely. If only “unwinding” was as natural as we would assume, but it often takes a lot more discipline and pep talks in the mirror.
When your entire year revolved around checking and responding to emails in time, relaxing might feel foreign, perhaps you feel a bit guilty. Every time your phone vibrates, your heart drops a little. But here are eight ways to unwind and relax this holiday season:
-
Read
Make some time to dust off those best sellers you bought, but never had the time to read. Your time to be swept away is finally here. This activity will ensure your December bonus sits tucked away, while still filling you up with knowledge and ideas.
-
Reconnect
Time to slow down and catch up with that cousin traveling the world alone, or pop your high school friend a like on Instagram. We can now reconnect with people without worrying about time.
-
Exercise
It seems like everyone was staying fit this year, some more than others. If you can relate, now is your time to get out and practice our “new year new me” resolutions and hit the gym.
-
Clean
Sort, store and discard. You can finally clear your space of that unwanted junk to declutter for the new year. Eye rolls as you read this because who wants to spend their holiday cleaning, but it can be therapeutic and relaxing. Put on your favourite jams, and have some fun with it.
-
Rest
Another crucial one, rest. Rest without feeling guilty about “being online”. Resting is easier said than done for many, but now is the time to lounge around all day and kick being “productive” to the curb, you deserve it!
-
Get outside
Explore your neighbourhood, and take a walk to your nearest coffee shop or park. Minimise your screen time and soak in the much needed Vitamin D.
-
Don’t set an alarm
Disable your 20 alarms, and appreciate the many moments spent in bed, doing absolutely nothing. Or surprise your other half to breakfast in bed, before you tuck away for another few hours.
-
Enjoy every breakfast
How many mornings are spent gobbling down oats, dreaming about making pancakes and eating your brekkie at the table. It’s time to play Masterchef in the kitchen and explore some cool recipes. How about a late breakfast on Monday, indulging in sweet waffles, or a make it a family affair and teach the kids how to make Shakshuka.
