The beloved Knysna Oyster Festival kicks off on 29 June –  8 July. It is an annually awaited lifestyle and sports festival for all. Lasting a full 10 days, the festivities include live music performances, marathons, cycling, a good dose of fresh oysters and bubbly.

It is a winter season must do for families as it is jam packed with activity, from a kid-friendly program for the little ones to comedy and fashion shows. The kids can look forward to art and crafts sessions along with active events to keep them busy. This year the local restaurants will turn the heat up with specifically designed themed menus for the duration of the festival. Momentum Health Kiddies will be providing a tent to keep the kids entertained while you head out to experience the oyster festival.

The sporting line up includes the Momentum Knysna Cycle tour mountain bike edition on 30 June ranging from 15km – 50 km routes. Along with a mountain bike tour, a  Momentum Knysna Cycle tour road competition will take place on 1 July which offers a route of 50km and 115km. The Momentum Cycle tour has announced that racers will be given the chance to be seeded for the Cape Town Cycle tour of 2019 when taking part in either the 115km road race or the 50km and 80km mountain bike races.

Runners can partake in the forest; and also a half marathon run. The Momentum Knysna Forest and Half Marathon is a competitive running race and takes place on 7 July. The route will allow runners to take in the natural landscape and beauty of Knysna. Those who are looking for a less competitive race can take part in the Ikasi colour fun run on 1 July.

The event will also host basketball, a family fun dam ride, netball games along with a bowls, golfing and soccer tournament.

Aside from the abundance of oysters and champers, the festival will be hosting a wine day and will provide over 200 different craft wines and liquors . Tickets cost R 150 including a wine glass and various pairings are available and takes place on 3 July. Seafood lovers can take part in the fish braai competition for the winning title of ‘fish braai master’ of Knysna on 5 July.

Dance it out to local performances and DJ’s during the festival, featuring DJ Bongs at the iSkeem sePotsoyi colour splash party on 30 June at R50 cost at the door.
