Discarded fishing nets float in the ocean currents, killing fish, turtles, whales, dolphins, sharks, seals, birds and other marine life.
Copenhagen Cartel contributes to the reduction of this silent killer in our seas by producing bathing suits and sportswear from recycled nylon waste, such as waste nets collected from harbours and fishing industries, preventing nets from being discarded into our oceans, as well as pre-consumer fabric scraps.
This ECONYL® regenerated nylon yarn is spun with elastane to create a soft, stretchy fabric that retains its shape as you move. The company has also developed the innovative and long-lasting OCN WEED Collection, which is made of 30% seaweed and 70% organic cotton; seaweed, also known as ‘the bamboo of the ocean,’ is naturally regenerative.
The true heroes, however, are Copenhagen Cartel’s customers, who contribute to the conservation of not only our seas but also baby sea turtles by purchasing one of Copenhagen Cartel’s unique, stylish and comfortable pieces.
As a member of 1% for the Planet, Copenhagen Cartel donates 1% of its annual revenue to approved environmental organisations, such as the non-profit turtle conservation organisation SEE Turtles.
Copenhagen Cartel donates to SEE Turtle’s ‘Billion Baby Turtles’ project for every product sold. Locally, Copenhagen Cartel has partnered with the Turtle Foundation of the Two Oceans Aquarium to protect and rehabilitate our turtles by donating 1% of its South African sales.
Lucyanne Macleod and Kate Sadie, the duo in charge of distributing Copenhagen Cartel across the African continent as well as in the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius, Reunion, Seychelles and the Maldives, are responsible for this exciting venture into the African market.
