A 33-year-old police officer was found murdered around 6.30am on Christmas Day away from a state vehicle he was driving in Asanda Village, Somerset West.

His name will be released after his family members have been notified. The SAPS constable sustained bullet and stab wounds.
According to IOL police spokesperson Brigadier Novella Potelwa said “the case has been handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks)”.
The case is being treated as murder and robbery.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani according to News24 said “police interviewed a man who was injured after the police officer had apparently fired shots at a group of people who were trying to rob him”.
“The injured person was then taken to Hottentots Holland Hospital and later transferred to Tygerberg Hospital for further medical examination.”
An interview with Hawks ended up with the injured man being arrested and leading to the apprehension of three more suspects.
Four suspects, between the ages of 21 and 37, are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court tomorrow 28 December 2022.
