The Western Cape’s most prestigious race, the Totalsports Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, took place on 15 April and once again proved to be a spectacular event. The race takes athletes on a breathtaking course around the Cape Peninsula.
This year’s race was particularly noteworthy, with Gerda Steyn emphatically cementing her place in history. She broke the record she set last year once again, with the runner-up nowhere in sight.

Tactical and assured from the beginning, Steyn nailed her fourth win and second record!
But Steyn wasn’t the only winner to celebrate. Givemore Mudzinganyama also made history as he won the Men’s Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon.

It was an incredible feat for Mudzinganyama, who battled fierce competition throughout the 56km course. His victory was well-deserved and a testament to his hard work and dedication.
It’s worth noting that the Two Oceans Marathon is not only a thrilling athletic event, but it also contributes up to R672 million to the local GDP annually.
When measured by this metric, it is Africa’s biggest running event.
The Two Oceans Marathon is backed by South Africa’s leading sports apparel retailer, Totalsports, and is run under the auspices of World Athletics (WA), Athletics South Africa (ASA), and Western Province Athletics (WPA).
Congratulations to Gerda Steyn and Givemore Mudzinganyama for their incredible achievements, and to all the athletes who took part in this year’s race!
