After a relatively peaceful bout of eased loadshedding, the country will have to brace itself for the return of stage 4, which is currently planned for Thursday evening this week.
Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented until 5am on Thursday. Stage 3 will follow until 4pm, upon which stage 4 will make its comeback until 5am on Friday morning.
For this weekend’s power forecast, stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented from 5am on Friday until 5am on Saturday. Stage 2 will then follow until 5am on Sunday.
According to Eskom, breakdowns have reduced to 15 089 MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance has increased to 7 147 MW.
Over the past 24 hours, a generation unit was returned to service at Duvha Power Station. In the same period, a generating unit each at Lethabo, Kendal and Kriel power stations was taken offline for repairs.
The delays in returning a unit to service at Hendrina, Medupi and two units at Tutuka Power Stations have contributed to the capacity constraints, said Eskom in a statement.
Five open-cycle gas turbines (OCGTs) at Ankerlig Power Station were taken out of service this morning for a planned upgrade of their control systems.
