To say the last 18 months have been weird is an understatement. Lockdown, quarantine, social distancing and pandemic are all words that have been etched into our everyday vocabulary. Having to physically spend time apart from friends and family has become the sucky norm, so finding ways to stay connected with loved ones has been a priority for many of us.
While finding authentic ways to stay connected can be tricky, it’s not impossible. Here are a few cute ways to say “I love you” to those you care about when you’re miles apart.
Send a care package
Nothing says: “I’m thinking about you,” more than a box of your favourite things, so why not grab a few of your loved one’s favourite things. While everyone loves chocolates, try and think outside the box on this one. Favourite savoury treats, clothes or little souvenirs that show just how much they’re on your mind – let your imagination run wild.
Write Letters
Letter writing is a lost art, so why not attempt to revive it by posting a few sappy letters. Sure, it may take weeks for your special someone to receive your note of adoration, but there’s something personal about handwritten letters that social media and WhatsApp can’t seem to replicate. A great way to connect with a partner is to write an “Open when”… angry or when you miss me. Make sure you include a ton of personality in these kinds of letters, perhaps some perfume or a lipstick smothered kiss.
Share a playlist
We all know that music brings people together, and it’s a wonderful way for you to express feelings and emotions. Tap into your musical genius and create an Apple or Spotify playlist with a range of songs that remind you of your loved one. Create this playlist together, so anytime you’re missing each other, you can just hit play.
Have a virtual holiday
Just because physical travel is off the cards, for now, that doesn’t mean you can’t quench your wanderlust virtually. Here are a few ways you can daydream together:
- Choose the day and destination you will be “travelling” to and set up your video call. Head to Google Maps, enter the city and explore the virtual streets together!
- If you both love scrapbooking, then grab your glue, pictures, postcards and start collaging! Include everything, from the itinerary to all the activities you would love to get up to. This is also a really cool way to plan your future dream trip when things are a little less tricky.
- The internet is a wonderful place, and tons of virtual tours are popping up right now. Explore the Grand Canyon via their 360 view photo tours or virtually wander through the Sistine Chapel in Italy.
