Cape Town’s youngest female DJ and rising star, DJ Sophia, is calling for support as she organises a blanket drive event taking place on Saturday, 24 June.
At only nine years old, DJ Sophia has already made a name for herself in the industry, winning a DJ competition in Retreat back in December 2019. With a resident slot on The Good Vibes Show with DJ Reddy D on GoodHope FM, this Grade 4 pupil from the Southern Suburbs is captivating audiences with her talent and passion for music.
DJ Sophia’s love for music stems from her father, Ian Petersen, who is also a DJ. She started exploring her father’s equipment at the age of four, demonstrating a genuine interest in DJing. Recognising her curiosity, her father began teaching her the art and DJ Sophia’s skills have flourished ever since.
Amid the challenges faced by the entertainment industry in recent times, DJ Sophia has taken to social media to keep her audience engaged. Through livestreams and online platforms, she has continued to share her amazing mixes.
In April, Sophia lost her beloved grandfather, who had been her biggest fan and source of motivation. To honour his memory and support the most vulnerable members of society, DJ Sophia has organised a blanket park-off event.
The purpose of DJ Sophia’s initiative is to collect blankets and non-perishable food items for the elderly, whom she refers to as our ‘forgotten heroes.’ The event will take place at Wraptors Cape Town, Unit 16, Blaauwberg Business Park in Milnerton, from 3pm until 6pm today, June 24.
DJ Sophia and her family have selected the Erica Home, located in their area, as the beneficiary of the collected items. DJ Sophia and her father will provide the beats as people drop off their donations at the site, ensuring a memorable and uplifting experience for all involved.
