The proprietor of the BP Wavecrest garage in Strandfontein has confirmed the dismissal of ten petrol attendants whom he describes as ‘rogue’ employees.
Their termination stems from allegations that these attendants misused customers’ Pick n Pay Smart Shopper cards to accumulate points for their personal gain.
Dev Naidoo, the owner, revealed that one attendant managed to amass R50 000 in points, the Daily Mail reports.

Naidoo elaborated on the situation, stating that the attendants had abused the Smart Shopper system, believing their actions would go unnoticed. Unbeknownst to them, Pick n Pay had meticulously documented every transaction.
‘They didn’t understand that when they punched in their code, their name popped up, then BP sent me 72 pages of these things,’ Naidoo remarked.
Some attendants engaged in repeated swipes, extracting R6 000 at 30-minute intervals.
According to Naidoo, the attendants employed a variety of methods to obtain points. These included using stolen cards, unclaimed cards left by customers and even their own family members’ cards.
The garage proprietor highlighted the absence of mitigating factors, stressing that the attendants did not seem to learn from their mistakes, repeating the fraudulent behaviour consistently.
Despite their claims of innocence, Naidoo remained resolute in his decision, refusing to protects individuals engaged in criminal activities.
‘We mustn’t protect criminals, and they are a bunch of criminals. The bottom line is that it is fraud.’
