Angelique Eurika Greeff, known by her stage name Angie Oeh, a 24-year-old Afrikaans rap sensation, has tragically passed away following a battle with stage 4 lung cancer. The young artist’s journey was cut short on Saturday, leaving the nation in shock and sadness.
Greeff’s health struggles came to light when she was admitted to Life Wilgers Hospital in Pretoria on 13 August due to severe pain in her side. This distressing symptom eventually led to a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. Despite undergoing emergency surgery and chemotherapy, Greeff’s condition took a turn for the worse.
After her second chemotherapy session on 18 August, she experienced low oxygen levels and was moved to the hospital’s vigilance unit. Despite all efforts to stabilise her, her health declined, leading to her untimely passing on 19 August at 5:24pm.
Throughout her battle, Greeff’s loved ones stood by her side, including her girlfriend and close family members. The news of her passing was met with an outpouring of grief and support from fans, fellow artists and the South African community.
In response to Greeff’s diagnosis, her management team launched a Back A Buddy page to raise funds for her medical expenses. The overwhelming support resulted in over R250 000 being raised in just 48 hours.
Angie Oeh’s musical journey began in 2019 when she started writing, producing and independently releasing music. It was in December 2021 that she gained widespread recognition with her Afrikaans song Dis jou wyfie.
With a fresh and distinctive sound, she earned the title of the first Afrikaans mumble rhyming rapper. Beyond her musical prowess, Angie Oeh used her platform to raise awareness about important issues, challenging societal norms and advocating for women’s rights.
