An Airlink flight bound for Cape Town was forced to stop its take-off after a tyre burst on the runway at OR Tambo International Airport, disrupting travel plans for dozens of passengers.
Flight 4Z 951, operated by an Embraer E190 aircraft, was carrying 75 passengers and crew when the incident occurred. The pilots brought the aircraft to a stop in line with standard safety procedures.
The incident prompted Airlink to arrange an alternative aircraft to get passengers to their destination, while engineers assessed the original plane.
According to reports by Bizcommunity, buses and mobile stairs were arranged to help passengers safely disembark before being transferred to the replacement aircraft.
In an update, Airlink confirmed that passengers had boarded the replacement plane and were expected to continue their journey to Cape Town shortly.
Meanwhile, engineers were inspecting the aircraft involved in the incident to determine how it could be safely moved off the runway.
Airlink apologised to passengers for the delay and inconvenience caused by the disruption.
