Earlier this week, a giant squid and a pilot whale calf were spotted at Scarborough and Table View beaches.
According to the City of Cape Town, scientists from the Iziko Museum were immediately alerted, who took measurements for records and samples for genetic testing.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews said this is not an uncommon event as every year, animals in the area usually get washed off onto the beaches.
However, earlier today another pilot whale was also washed off at Table View beach which was taken to Paarden Island facility for National Government to perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Additionally, Andrews added that the City of Cape Town Spatial Planning and Environment team will keep monitoring the coastline in the coming days for possible stranded animals.
