The City has accepted a settlement for the battle against the development of Amazon in Cape Town.
All legal action against the R4 billion headquarters has been dropped.
‘The City is pleased with this outcome and the clear message it conveys – that the City will always vigorously defend planning decisions taken correctly, and will act to protect Cape Town’s reputation as a leading global investment destination,’ said Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
According to the City, the development project will protect and preserve First Nations heritage, as well as benefit communities economically.
Some positive action that will be enforced includes the rehabilitation of a portion of the Liesbeek River, the injection of R4.5 billion of direct investment into the local economy, and the establishment of heritage infrastructure and partnerships with First Nations.
