A 39-year-old woman from George was arrested on Saturday on allegations of human trafficking.
On 25 May, the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in George responded to an alleged assault complaint alongside members of the South African Police Service’s Visible Policing team at a known brothel.

Upon further investigation, the Hawks established that a victim was being held against her will by the suspect.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, says the Hawks then immediately pursued the suspect and arrested her.
The victim was taken to George Hospital for medication examination and thereafter a place of safety.
The suspect is due to appear in the George Magistrates’ Court today.
