An N2 smash-and-grab has been reported near the Airport Approach turn-off onto the N2, with motorists heading towards Somerset West urged to stay alert after a councillor flagged the incident on Sunday, 18 October.
In a public Facebook post, City of Cape Town councillor Emre Uygun said another attack had been reported at the location that day. He described the route as an ongoing concern for motorists, saying, ‘The N2 continues to be a serious safety concern for motorists.’ He added that he would share further updates.
The post did not mention injuries, stolen items or a police case.
Why the N2 remains a concern
The report comes amid continued safety concerns for drivers using Cape Town’s major roads. The City of Cape Town lists the N2 as a particular crime hotspot and notes that smash-and-grabs often happen when vehicles are stationary or moving slowly in traffic.
The City advises motorists to lock their doors, close their windows and keep valuables out of sight. Its smash-and-grab safety guidance also warns drivers to remain alert when stopped at traffic lights or caught in congestion.
Cape {town} Etc reported a separate incident near Borcherds Quarry on 15 October, after footage of an attack on a motorist circulated online. No connection between that incident and the one reported by Uygun has been established.
