You may be wondering why the Animal Welfare Society of SA is making such a fuss about fireworks. Well for starters, animals hate fireworks (especially crackers) as much as many of us do!
Crackers explode like amplified gunfire in the exquisitely sensitive ears of all animals and these blasts can leave them confused, disorientated, lost, in a state of severe shock, or even dead.
Bees become so disorientated that they don’t go back to their hives, birds suffer panic attacks resulting in mass deaths, wild animals raising babies abandon their nests in fear, fish and other animals perish after ingesting fireworks litter and cats and dogs have panic attacks.
Despite the Animal Welfare Society of SA’s loud protestation for everyone to please refrain from discharging fireworks on Guy Fawkes which falls on November 5, the shelter still anticipates that there will be an inconsiderate few who will flaunt the law.
