Beta Beach in Bakoven has been closed to the public until further notice. The temporary closure is due to an electrical failure at the Beta sewer pump station, typically, the second pump would automatically activate in such situations, but this did not occur, resulting in an overflow of wastewater.

Despite the installation of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) a few months ago to minimize loadshedding problems, one of the pumps malfunctioned. The issue was resolved yesterday, 25 February 2023, and the second pump is now operational.
To ensure the safety of beachgoers, water tests have been conducted and will be performed daily until the results are satisfactory. Unfortunately, it may take up to two days to receive the all-clear on water test results, so the beach may not officially reopen until Tuesday, 28 February 2023.
