2020 has been a disastrous year for virtually every industry across the world, especially the food industry. Two more beloved Cape Town restaurants, Balducci and Balthazar, have had to shut their doors amid the pandemic.

Balducci, a popular Italian restaurant at the V&A Waterfront, has announced it is ceasing trading after 24 years.

“We would like to take this opportunity to say a great big THANK YOU to all our loyal customers who have supported us these past 24 years, we could not have reached the level of success we had without you,” the owners wrote in a statement on Saturday, December 12.

A representative from the Slick Restaurant Group confirmed that Balducci’s sister restaurant Belthazar at the V&A Waterfront has also shut its doors due to the disastrous impact of the COVID-9 pandemic.

Fans of Balducci’s and Belthazar are encouraged to visit their sister restaurant Gibsons.
