A body discovered at Blue Waters Beach in Strandfontein on Monday remains unidentified at this stage, with Strandfontein SAPS opening an inquest, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Western Cape police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana confirmed the body was found at about 06:30 on 5 October. It was discovered near the shoreline after the remains were seen in the water.
The body was badly decomposed, making identification at the scene impossible. Dark-coloured Adidas tracksuit trousers were among the visible clothing items.
The discovery has raised questions about whether the remains could be linked to the disappearance of Slade van der Walt, who was swept out to sea from Strand Beach on 2 September. His family and community members have continued searching since his disappearance.
Police have not confirmed that the body is Van der Walt. DNA and pathology testing will be needed before the deceased can be formally identified.
SAPS told Daily Voice , ‘This office confirms that a decomposed body was discovered today, 5 October 2026, at the beach in Strandfontein around 06:30.’
For now, investigators are treating the matter as an inquest. Blue Waters Beach is located at the corner of Lucannon Drive and Michael Road in Strandfontein.
