Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg says Samora Machel police are investigating a case of murder. A 45-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
According to IOL, Brian Miripiri is accused of killing his girlfriend, 56-year-old Busisiwe Mthethwa. Her remains were in a freezer at her home in Samora Machel. She was last heard from two days before Miripiri was arrested. He reportedly told those close to her that she went to the Eastern Cape.
However, her relatives were allegedly informed that Miripiri was selling her belongings.
The State says police found him at Mthethwa’s home. ‘The police who attended the scene said it was like a fight had occurred. He told the police he hadn’t seen her for two days. They found the victim’s body in the chest freezer. He was then arrested. The State doesn’t have bail information.’
Miripiri is scheduled to appear in court again on 9 January.
