Earlier this morning, a hijacked goods vehicle collided with the Muizenberg railway bridge. Travelling at a high speed and ignoring the flashing warning signs indicating their vehicle exceeded the height limit, the trailer compartment struck the bridge with significant force.

This impact lifted the front of the truck and slammed the driver’s compartment into the underside of the bridge, propelling both occupants into the windshield.
Dazed, the injured occupants sat on the sidewalk as a crowd gathered. Older markings on the truck windshield were observed, suggesting the truck had recently been hijacked, recovered, and booked into the SAPS holding yard. At this point, both occupants ran off in different directions.
One suspect headed towards the main road where a getaway vehicle awaited, while the other fled towards Strandfontein but was quickly apprehended by a local security company.
It was then revealed that the truck had been hijacked earlier in Oceanview.
Road closures in both directions will be in effect due to the incident.
The Muizenberg Bridge has ensnared many trucks over the years, but this time it assisted SAPS in apprehending their latest suspect.
