Basson has been going at it for about 58 hours now, and he’s doing well, he told Cape {town} Etc. ‘My voice hurts a bit and I’m a little bit tired. I’ve had about one and a half hours of sleep in a total of 56 hours thus far. It’s going well.’
Basson is aiming to braai for 84 hours straight at his Zamani Grill in Calitzdorp. He started early on Thursday morning. ‘My ankles have started to swell a bit from standing and moving around so much. It’s a tad uncomfortable but not a game-changer. I feel like I can still do this.’
His first batch of braaivleis has already been donated to the Calitzdorp Police, and the second batch was given to the Vygieshof residential care home. He is now working on a donation to the Calitzdorp Feeding Centre, a local soup kitchen.
