Residents are in shock after a video shared to a local Facebook page shows inmates in a prison in the Western Cape living in comfort and even using drugs.

The video posted on Sunday, February 23 by Cape Flats Stories on Facebook shows a group of male inmates relaxing together around a large bed and smoking tik while preparing packets of drugs – which appear to be tik – for selling in the prison.

They appear to be having a good time. Loud music is playing while someone films their activities on a contraband phone.

With over 267 000 views the video is fast going viral and has been shared over 5 000 times with more than 600 comments.

Many who have seen the video are wondering where the wardens are and why prisoners are living such comfortable lives while serving their sentences.

The video was shared with the caption “lekker innie tronk in” which translates to “good times in the jail” and it is unknown which jail the video was filmed in.

Even though they are in prison they seem as though they are perfectly happy with their situation. Watch the video here:

Videos such as this certainly do not help the current state of residents viewpoints toward South African’s crime, with many feeling the police system is failing us and it seems the prison system is no better.
