Cape Town businesses have been able to protect thousands of jobs with support from the City’s Business Hub, which has helped 68 businesses improve their productivity since July 2023.
The City of Cape Town’s Productivity Efficiency Programme contributed to saving 2 139 jobs, according to figures released by the City. The programme forms part of the Business Hub’s efforts to help local enterprises improve their operations and remain competitive.
For business owners navigating the challenges of running and growing an enterprise, access to practical support can make a difference to how they operate and sustain their workforce.
Business Hub records high satisfaction levels
Beyond its work with individual businesses, the City’s Business Hub has also reported positive feedback on its training programmes and the resolution of service requests.
Data available from July 2023 shows that satisfaction levels for these services have ranged between 92% and 96%.

The figures highlight the reach of the City’s business support initiatives, which are designed to help entrepreneurs address operational challenges and identify opportunities for growth.
Support for businesses at different stages
The Business Hub offers assistance in several areas, including guidance on doing business with the City, preparing for procurement opportunities, digitising operations, improving productivity and accessing new markets.
According to Alderman James Vos, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, business support should be measured by whether it leaves entrepreneurs better equipped to run and grow their enterprises.
Vos said the City aims to provide practical tools and opportunities that reflect the different needs of businesses at various stages of development.
The approach also focuses on improving the business environment by reducing unnecessary red tape, making municipal services easier to navigate and connecting enterprises with opportunities.
How Cape Town businesses can access support
The City says it wants more businesses to know about the available assistance and make use of its programmes.
