One such cable theft ‘hotspot’ is Eisleben Road in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, said JP Smith in a Facebook post, adding that this area has been added to the list of locations to patrol.
On Wednesday, 28 June, City’s Communications Centre received information of cable theft occurring in this hotspot.

‘It was noted that the theft was taking place in the early hours of the morning,’ said Smith.
A 34-year-old male was arrested by the Traffic Services Highway Patrol Unit shortly after midnight on Thursday morning.
The suspect caught spade in hand and still busy digging, was handed over at Lentegeur Police Station.
‘Damage to critical infrastructure continues at an alarming pace and sadly, it is the very communities often home to the same perpetrators, that often bear the brunt,’ said Smith.
‘Stretches of road are often left in darkness, inviting further criminal activities but also creating unsafe road conditions for motorists.’
