Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has activated emergency and rescue teams in anticipation of a storm set to hit the city on Sunday evening.
In a video message shared on the city’s Facebook page, Hill-Lewis highlighted ongoing response efforts following a fire that ravaged homes in Fish Hoek.
He advised residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. School closures in the Helderberg district for Monday were reiterated and locals were urged to report incidents to the city.
Gale-force winds caused havoc in areas including Stellenbosch, Somerset West and parts of the Overberg on Sunday afternoon.
