On Sunday, football coach Mike Lukhubene and one other person were gunned down after a match in Khayelitsha.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says two men, aged 37 and 46, were approached by unknown gunmen. ‘They sustained gunshot wounds to their heads and were declared deceased on the scene by paramedics.’
As per News24, the motive for the murders is not clear yet.
Bennet Bailey, South African Football Association (SAFA) president, says Lukhubene was reportedly shot while on his way to his car after the match between Hot Spurs from Nyanga and Tottenham Hotspur FC from Manenberg.
‘Violence has absolutely no place in football, and we condemn this in the strongest form. It is important that our players, staff and supporters feel completely and entirely safe at our venues and we will work with all stakeholders to do our absolute best to ensure the safety of all.’
‘On behalf of every member and administrator involved in Cape Town football, we wish to take this opportunity to share our heartfelt condolences with those affected by this awful tragedy.’
According to a circular sent to all football associations, it is believed that the incident is not related to any football matters. ‘We are devastated to have heard what transpired, which was immediately attended to by SAFA Cape Town Vice President, Nomonde Ndyoko, who was at the venue on the day and was already outside the venue (departing) when notified of the news.’
