According to Alderman JP Smith, the City’s Mayco member for safety and security, 12 occurred in Lavender Hill. The incidents were captured on ShotSpotter, the City’s gunfire detection system.
‘Members have been hard at work, conducting disruptive policing across these gang hotspot areas. Close to the location of the earlier fatal shooting of two persons, law enforcement found two firearms in the possession of a suspect. These will now need to be sent to the SAPS Forensic lab for ballistics testing, to establish if they can be linked to any earlier crimes.’
