The body of a teenager was found dumped in a bin in Manenburg, prompting police to open an investigation into the murder.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg indicated that the 19-year-old woman’s body was located in a bin on Olga Street in the early hours of Sunday before officials were called and the young woman was pronounced dead, reports News24.
“Manenberg police were called to the crime scene where they found the victim in the bin. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel,” Twigg said.
The police are currently in pursuit of a suspect that was alleged to have fled the scene, stated Twigg.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Meanwhile, across town, a 25-year-old foreign national was brought home safely after being kidnapped and R100 000 was demanded, as per IOL. The shopkeeper was kidnapped outside his store in Kalksteenfontein near Bishop Lavis with footage of the kidnapping being shared via social media.
