A City of Cape Town traffic officer appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court yesterday after it was discovered that she allegedly extorted money from a drunk driver.

Hawks spokesperson Siyabulela Vukubi told SABC News that the incident occurred in September last year. The 47-year-old, Renay Ruiters, appeared in court on the same day as her arrest.

She was granted bail and the matter has been postponed to 5 April for further investigation.
‘Ruiters briefly appeared at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court and (…) was granted R1 000 bail today, 18 January 2024.’
