Two fatal and near-fatal drowning incidents have reportedly occurred at Sonwabe Beach in Muizenberg where scores of locals and visitors were flocking to as a result of today’s hot weather conditions.

According to SA911‘s Facebook post, there are multiple patients at the beach, with reports of two fatalities, one of which has been confirmed.
Emergency services are on scene.

Facebook user Elton Joseph, who was at Sonwabe Beach before the incidents, commented that Sonwabe Beach ‘is too full. The lifeguards have their hands full’ while Bradley Fisher, another Sonwabe Beach visitor, responded that ‘the water was definitely not safe to swim in. You could see the rip current’.
Road users travelling in and around Muizenberg can expect delays due to congestion in the area and at Sunrise Circle.
