As reported by News24, Agliotti was alleged to have provided Selebi with money and clothing as part of a mutually beneficial arrangement. In return, Selebi reportedly shared confidential information with Agliotti to shield him from criminal investigations, this according to the Mail&Guardian.
The state claimed that Selebi accepted over R1.2 million from Agliotti and was accused of obstructing justice by divulging confidential police reports to him. Selebi’s trial gained significant attention due to his distinction as the first black national police commissioner to be convicted of accepting bribes from a drug kingpin.
Selebi received a 15-year prison sentence but was granted medical parole in 2012, less than a year into his term. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 64.
