This comes after the Manenberg Serious Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Information Management Analysis Centre successfully convicted, prosecuted and sentenced accused criminals in two separate murder cases.
Fahiem Carolus and Luciano Thomas, both 30-years old, received life sentences.
The incident occurred during so-called gang peace talks in December 2018.
‘It was revealed in court that opposing gangs gathered on an open field behind Rosa Court in Heideveld,’ explained SAPS spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk. ‘As they got together Fahiem and his co-accused, Luciano Thomas pulled out their firearms and fired several shots at the unsuspecting victims fatally wounding Fabian Adams and seriously injuring his brother, Carlo Adams.’
‘Both were taken to a nearby medical facility where 33-year-old Fabian Adams was declared deceased, while Carlo Adams was treated for his gunshot wounds.’
The successful prosecution and conviction leading to life sentences unfolded in the Wynberg Regional Court on Thursday 20 April 2023.
In the second successful prosecution, Wynberg Regional Court, sentenced 31-year-old Hazart Clayton, who was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for murder and 8 years for attempted murder. These sentences will run concurrently, which means he will serve an effective 12 years of direct imprisonment under a plea bargain agreement.
‘This successful conviction comes after he and three of his co-accused pulled up in a white Honda, in front of a known drug house in Zuurberg Road, Heideveld,’ Van Wyk confirmed. ‘They opened fire on the unsuspected victim, killing 38-year-old Nathier Sydow.’
‘The deceased was not a member of any gang. They fled the scene in a white motor vehicle. In the plea bargain agreement he took the blame for the drive by murder committed, setting his co-accused free.’
The police members were praised for their commitment and dedication to bringing closure for the families of these senseless murders.
