Counterfeit goods valued at R75 million were confiscated by the Western Cape SAPS as the National Safer Festive Season Operations got underway.

According to Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, spokesman for the national police, R200 000 in cash was also taken from a shopping centre in Belville, Cape Town.
‘Through heightened visibility, police are intensifying operations to deal decisively with crime and criminals in all forms and shape,’ said Mathe.
She stated that regular roadblocks, stop and searches, and the tracking of wanted suspects are all part of these operations.
‘This was done assist police to bolster their crime combating efforts and heighten visibility in gang ridden areas where murders are prevalent,’ said Mathe.
Seven key areas will be the focus of the SAPS Safer Festive Season Operational Plan, which was released on Friday across all nine provinces.

These cover gender-based violence, the fight against violent and serious crimes like aggravated robberies, border security, tightening up the law, improving road safety, and illegal mining.
The SAPS launched a service rating platform where the general public can rate the service they are receiving from all police stations across the nation in an effort to improve and enhance service delivery.
‘We encourage everyone to rate every single service they receive from us so that we can have a clear picture of our performance in an effort to enhance our service offering,’ said General Fannie Masemola, the national police commissioner.
‘We want to win back the trust of our communities and we can only do so if we deliver and intervene if there are gaps.’
