On Sunday, 19 November, the DFW general commander received a distress call from anxious parents reporting the disappearance of two children, suggesting a possible abduction in the Old Du Toit Kloof Pass horseshoe area. This concern arose when two children, out of a group of four, returned home and recounted an alarming incident, stating that their friends had been taken by four men who chased them.
The DFW commander swiftly activated a comprehensive alert, disseminating information through the DFW control and WhatsApp groups, reaching out to colleagues from Paarl Fire, K9 police, SAPS and DFW rescue, urging their assistance.
After gathering crucial details on-site and from the two boys who managed to escape, a search operation commenced.
Collaborating with the local farming community, an extensive search began, covering the vicinity starting near the mountain horseshoe. A breakthrough came when news arrived that the missing boys were found at a horse farm several kilometres down the mountain.
On arrival at the horse farm, the children were found to have endured severe assaults, sustaining injuries as they were beaten, and stripped naked, and the older boy suffered multiple fractures to his left arm and hand.
The DFW EFAR team administered medical assistance to the children before they were transferred into an ambulance and transported to hospital.
The DFW expressed its gratitude to the K9 Police Paarl, Paarl SAPS Central and East, Drakenstein Fire, Fidelity ADT, EMS Metro and PACRS, the DFW emergency responders, and their control room operators for the swift response.
The DFW Fire and Rescue is a private non-profit field and structural fire response group in the Western Cape, South Africa. Its dedicated teams provide fire suppression and emergency medical response services in the Greater Drakenstein Municipal area.
