The deployment of members assigned to Operation Restore along entry and exit routes in our province has yielded positive outcomes. Two suspects were arrested in possession of illicit precious stones, uncut diamonds, and rubies.
On Sunday morning, while conducting a roadblock on the N7 near Klawer, members attached to Operation Restore noticed a suspicious Toyota bakkie with two occupants. They proceeded to search the bakkie and its occupants, leading to the discovery of 29 unpolished diamonds and a significant amount of cash in the possession of one occupant, and three unpolished rubies in the possession of the other occupant.
The stones were seized and both suspects, aged 33 and 46, were immediately arrested. The vehicle was also confiscated as evidence. The two individuals are set to appear in the Klawer Magistrates’ court, where they will face charges of illegal possession of precious stones.
