Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, spokesperson for the province’s South African Police Service (SAPS), says preliminary investigations suggest that five men wearing balaclavas entered the farmhouse via the back door on the Ronderug Farm, near the Orionskraal route, at around 9pm last night.
‘The suspects tied up the elderly couple where after they locked up the wife in the bathroom while the suspects took the husband to the outside of the house.’
The victim’s wife, who managed to cut the rope used to tie her up, later found him early this morning on their bedroom floor. He had succumbed to a stab wound to his neck.
Pojie confirms that forensic experts were dispatched to the scene. No arrests have been made yet.
