An elderly couple were confronted by three assailants on a farm in Citrusdal on Saturday evening. It is alleged that the men overpowered the couple who were visiting from Saldanha Bay. The robbers were armed with a gun, knobkerrie and another sharp object.

Sergeant Leandre Brooks of the Citrusdal police told News24, the 68-year-old man attempted to fight off one of the attackers. In doing so another grabbed him by the throat and overpowered him. He was hurt in the scuffle.

Brooks said the man managed to fight them off and activated the panic alarm. He sustained injuries to his arm, face and hands during the attack. A bloody picture of the man is evidence of the attack.

The 68-year-old victim covered in blood.

The suspects then fled the scene without taking anything from the house. A case of attempted robbery and pointing a firearm were opened at the Citrusdal Police Station.

In a tweet, Head of AfriForum Community Services, Ian Cameron shared information about the attack. Twitter followers replied to his tweet with anger – some calling for a “shoot first, ask questions later mentality”.

Police are looking for information on the three suspects involved in the attack. No arrests have been made yet.
