Elon ‘Chief Twit’ Musk has officially taken over social media giant, Twitter, with a mission to make a few drastic changes to the platform.
One of his first orders of business saw him firing four top executives, all of which are believed to be implicated in either Twitter’s content policies or in the preceding back-and-forth lawsuit between Musk and the platform.

Since sealing the deal, Musk has been searching for new ways to generate revenue. The result? A directive to change Twitter Blue into a more expensive subscription which will include paying for verification, even if the user is already verified.
Twitter Blue, the platform’s optional $4.99 a month subscription app, was launched in June last year. The app offers exclusive access to premium features such as editing published tweets and ad-free access to certain articles.
The Verge reported that Musk has given his new employees their first ultimatum: meet the deadline for project ‘paid verification’ on Twitter (7 November 2022), or face the possibility of being fired.
He reportedly spent the weekend discussing the move and making plans related to the project, according to Platformer who cited two people familiar with the matter.
Musk replied to a tweet on Sunday stating that Twitter’s verification process is currently under review, without giving any further details.

If the project moves forward, the subscription fee for Twitter Blue will increase to $19.99 per month. Users wanting to hold onto the coveted blue tick will be forced to subscribe to the app within 90 days or lose their blue checkmark.
It is worth noting that this decision has yet to be finalised and the project could still be scrapped. However, according to Platformer, it seems the increased fee and paid verification feature is likely to become part of Twitter Blue.
