Media company eMedia Investments made the announcement today [May 13] that one of their own, a camera operator working at the eNCA Cape Town office has passed away from COVID-19.

Lungile Tom (45) passed away today after he was admitted to hospital on Sunday evening [May 10], displaying symptoms of the virus.

Tom was tested and admitted to the intensive care unit and his results later came back positive.

According to Chief Operating Officer Antonio Lee, Tom had been with eNCA since 2013 as a ENG Camera Operator.

“Lungile was known for his larger than life personality and his dedication to his craft. His buoyant laughter will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his wife, Nandipha, and his children.” Lee said to eNCA.

The company has since disinfected and closed the floor of the offices where Tom worked and began tracing contacts and tracking those who could have been exposed to the virus.

Any employees who had contact with Tom have been advised to stay home by the company and will be tested and kept in self-isolation until further notice.

The media company said it has plans to honour Tom’s memory.
