A tragic incident occurred on Monday, 1 May 2023, at the Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve, located in the Breede River Valley of the Western Cape.

According to a statement released by the reserve, a staff member by the name of Kabelo Botha Mashao lost his life due to a fatal encounter with an elephant, which was brought into the reserve about 15 years ago.
The circumstances surrounding the event are currently unclear.
The Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve has expressed its condolences and is working with relevant authorities to investigate the incident. ‘Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Mashao family, his friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
‘We are providing support to our staff and all those affected by this tragic event. Our topmost priority is the safety and well-being of our staff, guests, and wildlife.’
