Amongst a plethora of protests and scandals over the years, it’s evident that Stellenbosch University is no stranger to scandal. Between racist attacks and alleged sexual assaults, this week has been horrendous.
The recent “urination” scandal has left many around the country outraged and in shock, including the parents of the students who now find themselves defending their children.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a drunk Theuns was filmed urinating on the desk, study books and laptop of fellow student, Babalo Ndwayana.
According to Ndwayana, when the recording stopped, Du Toit allegedly told him: “it’s a white boy thing” which Ndwayana interpreted as “this is what white boys do to black boys.”
Thousands have since called for the expulsion of Du Toit, but the University has since issued a statement indicating that a proper investigation will need to be conducted before the next steps can be taken.

According to News24, there is talk of “reconciliation” between the two fathers of victim and perpetrator. It’s been reported that a date and place has not yet been set but Rudi du Toit, a wine farmer from Worcester and the father of Theuns du Toit, is eager to meet face-to-face and discuss matters.
According to Mkuseli Kaduka, the father of Ndwayana, the two men did have a telephonic conversation in which Du Toit senior pleaded his son’s case and expressed remorse. However, Kaduka has since published a lengthy post on Facebook debunking the claim that any “reconciliation” meeting will be taking place between the two families.
“There are rumours making rounds that I’m meeting with the family of the perpetrator to reconcile with them. I did receive a call from the boy’s father trying to plead his son’s case as any parent would,” the post reads.
“There are certain forces who are driving their agenda and perpetuating false information. I do not have plans to meet with the Du Toits although they would love for that to happen. I’m very committed to seeing this fight through to the end. If I come out of this with anything it’ll be the dignity of my child restored and the perpetrator facing what’s due to them. I will not waiver nor yield in my quest to seek justice.”
The young Du Toit, who is a first-year law student, has since been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. The hearing will take place on Friday.
