The challenge ended on Thursday, 21 December in Mitchells Plain. ‘Wow. We’ve excelled in our first edition of the Festive Deeds Challenge by creating 1 470 new homeowners in less than three months – 470 more than the original target of 1 000 before the end of December,’ says Councillor Carl Pophaim, the City’s Mayco member for human settlements.

‘My direction was clear: we must shift to the highest gear and ensure we have greater delivery we will need to push ourselves more, set ambitious targets and meet them head-on. The people of Cape Town deserve better and we must do better.’
Pophaim adds that the City allocated some R21.6 million this year to deliver title deeds.
‘We have more than 12 000 title deeds on the Human Settlement’s registry and title deeds are such an important tool for empowerment and redress for our beneficiaries and their families. One house, one flat, one title deed, one serviced site at a time, we are committed to Building Cape Town. Together.’
Beneficiaries who have not received a deed are encouraged to visit the City’s Civic Centre in Foreshore or contact 021 400 2008.
